Tibet, Through the Eyes of its Children

Just last week, I picked up a check from the Dean's office. It is made out to me: Ms. Caitlin Frances McKimmy. It's the largest check I've ever received, and I it was given to me under the assumption that I would use it to travel to the Tibetan Plateau.

Carleton chose a project I developed, "Tibet, Through the Eyes of its Children," to be funded by an Allen & Irene Salisbury Fellowship, and I'm still struggling to process the magnitude of this opportunity. This summer my good friend Miles Schneider and I will be flying on an airplane to China, living at an orphanage in the Amdo region of Tibet, and doing everything we can to teach and learn with 68 Tibetan children. Then we will take the highest railway in the world into Lhasa, and perhaps visit a large mountain or two.

So that's it. I'm going to Tibet.
The Land of Snows, Shattered Temples, High Mountains, and Shangri-La.
I have no idea what I have gotten myself into.
This is exciting.
